UK - LOBA Poetry Reading with Roberta Werdinger

LOBA Reading Series
featuring Ukiah Poet Laureate, Roberta Werdinger

Saturday, June 15th

Join us for a poetry reading with Poet Laureate of Ukiah, Roberta Werdinger! Open mic follows. Teens & adults are invited to share poems in any form or style.

Born and raised in a suburb of Chicago, Roberta Werdinger came to California in 1977 in order to find herself. In the ensuing near-forty years, she found and then lost herself many times, meanwhile uncovering new selves which she also lost, re-found or redesigned. She has been or currently is a Zen monk, a poet and essayist, an English teacher, a professional writer and editor, a music programmer, and a Ukiah and Willits resident. She has received an Academy of American Poets award, has twice been invited to the Bread Loaf conference in Vermont, and has published work in the Redwood Coast Review and Leaping Clear, among others. Currently the Poet Laureate of Ukiah, she is at work on a memoir.

Light refreshments will be served. For more information – please contact Melissa at the Ukiah Library: 234-2862 or

A feminist epic by Diane di Prima, LOBA is a visionary epic quest for the reintegration of the feminine, hailed by many as the great female counterpart to Allen Ginsberg's Howl when the first half appeared in 1978. Loba, "she-wolf" in Spanish explores the wilderness at the heart of experience, through the archetype of the wolf goddess, elemental symbol of complete self-acceptance.
