General Assistance (GA) benefits offer financial assistance and emergency homeless assistance to disabled or unemployed single adults. GA also provides SSI advocacy, employment services, and burial assistance.
- GA is a loan program that provides a “safety net” for adults who have little or no income. This is a county-funded program for disabled and indigent persons who are unable to meet their own needs with any other sources. This program is intended to provide short-term assistance that will enable eligible individuals to become self-supporting, or to obtain support from other resources.
- There are two basic components in the GA Program
- SSI Advocacy
- Employment Services
- GA clients with a permanent disabling condition that prevents them from securing employment will meet individually with a GA social worker to complete an assessment and develop a service plan focusing on securing SSI and Medi-Cal.
- GA clients who are eligible for the employment services program will meet individually with an employment services representative to complete an assessment and develop a case plan. The employment services program goal is to help clients gain employment and self-sufficiency.
