Family Resource Centers are a home like environment where support and hope are offered to families, whether you just need some tips on how to handle your child’s tantrums or you need assistance with your Family & Children’s Services case plan.

The Mendocino County Family Centers, located in Ukiah and Willits, provide a variety services including parenting classes which are open to the general public, Intake Support groups and Family Empowerment groups for parents who have dependency court cases, supervision of visits between foster children and their parents, transportation for children to and from their visits, and housing advocacy and support for our homeless clients.

Many of the services are offered in both English and Spanish. Staff can help with translation and the Ukiah Family Center has a staff that helps with immigration support.

We also have celebrations at our Family Resource Centers to celebrate our families. In April, during Child Abuse Prevention Month, both Family Centers host the Day of the Child. This is a fun filled day of activities honoring children and is open to the public.

During the summer, both of our Family Centers arrange and organize various exciting summer activities open to children and families involved in Family and Children’s Services. Through generous donations, past activities have included trips to San Francisco Exploratorium, Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, CV Starr Aquatic Center in Fort Bragg, Point Cabrillo Lighthouse, McKerricker State Park, the Willits KOA Water Park and the Willits and Ukiah City Pools. Parenting Classes: Positive Parenting Program (Triple P)

The Positive Parenting Program, known as Triple P, helps to build better relationships between parents and children. The unique feature of Triple P is how the strategies and techniques learned have the potential to improve all relationships. It allows caregivers and parents to gain confidence, learn strategies to teach children new skills and have realistic expectations while parenting in a positive and effective way.

These classes are specifically designed for children with a separate class being offered for teens. While many of the classes offered at the Mendocino County Family Resource Centers are specifically tailored for families involved with Family & Children’s Services, all of the Triple P classes offered are open to the general public. A monthly calendar is updated regularly with class schedules.

A number of independently run Family Resource Centers are located throughout the County offering a number of parenting classes including Triple P and other services. Please contact the centers directly for more information about their services.
