Mendocino County Operational Area Training

The Mendocino County Office of Emergency Services (OES) in partnership with other County departments provides regular training in a variety of emergency management and Incident Command System (ICS) topics. This training is generally open to all Operational Area Partners and the general public. 

The following courses are some of the regular courses offered to Operational Area Partners and the public on an a regular or annual basis:

Introduction to the Incident Command System and the Standardized Emergency Management System (ICS and SEMS Combined Course)

This half day course combines the following courses:

  • Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS 100)
  • Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) Introduction
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS), An Introduction (IS 700)
  • NIMS Multiagency Coordination System (MACS) Course (IS 701.a)
  • NIMS Intrastate Mutual Aid, An Introduction (IS 706)
  • National Response Framework , An Introduction (IS 800)
Incident Command System 300 and 400

ICS 300 and 400 are generally offered twice a year (fall and winter) for all Operational Area Partners. These courses are normally both offered in a one week period (Monday-Wednesday for ICS 300 and Thursday-Friday for ICS 400).

ICS-300 Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents: ICS-300 provides training and resources for personnel who require advanced knowledge and application of the ICS. This course expands upon information covered in the ICS-100 and ICS-200 courses.

ICS-400 Advanced ICS: This course provides training and resources for personnel who require advanced application of ICS. This course expands upon information covered in ICS-100 through ICS-300.

EOC Management and Operations and ICS/EOC Interface Workshop (G775 and 191)

EOC Management and Operations (G775): This course focuses on EOC Management and Operations. Content includes Multiagency Coordination, EOC design, how to staff, activate and deactivate an EOC. 

ICS/EOC Interface (G191): This course provides participants with an understanding of ICS/EOC interface. Content includes an overview of ICS and MACS, and a practical exercise to discuss, apply, and validate workshop concepts and ideas for effective ICS and EOC interface.

Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Training

CERT Basic Training is a fun and empowering way to learn disaster preparedness, survival skills, rescuer safety, team work, fire safety and suppression, basic disaster medical operations and light search and rescue. It will provide you with knowledge, skills and tools to help support yourself, family, friends, and neighbors.

This training is funded by Mendocino County OES and provided by a partnership with North Coast Opportunities (NCO). More information about CERT and upcoming training dates can be found on the Mendocino County CERT Website.

Specialized Training

Mendocino County OES provides a number of first responder and emergency response training utilizing Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) and State Homeland Security Program (SHSP) Grant monies. These trainings are provided to Operational Area Partners on a request basis using funds  pre-allocated for training. Prior specialized training courses have included:

  • HazMat Specialist
  • HazMat Incident Commander
  • SWAT Training
  • Active Shooter Response
General Community Preparedness Training (available upon request)

Mendocino County OES can provide a number of various personal and community preparedness meetings upon request. OES is always happy to present or provide preparedness resources at community events and civic group meetings. Mendocino County OES conducts a variety of discussion based and field based exercises on a regular basis throughout the year.
