Animal Shelter to Host Spay/Neuter Day for Feral Cats

On Tuesday, December 12th, Animal Care Services & The Care-A-Van, will hold a no‐cost spay and neuter clinic for feral cats at the Animal Shelter located at 298 Plant Road.

“Feral cats are the same species as pet cats, but they live outdoors and can’t be socialized with people”. “Sterilizing feral cats is essential to a program called Trap‐Neuter‐Return, which ends the breeding cycle and makes feral cat’s better neighbors.”

The Animal Shelter invites the public to humanely trap and transport any FERAL cats, on their property to be spayed / neutered and vaccinated at the Animal Shelter between 7:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

While under anesthesia, the feral cats will be “eartipped” thus resulting in a small portion of the ear being removed for identification.  After recovering from the sterilization surgery, the cats will be ready for pick-up between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to be returned to their outdoor homes.

We are indebted to Anderson Valley Animal Rescue and (SNAP) the Spay & Neuter Assistance Program along with our individual donors for sponsoring this clinic.

If you are planning to participate in this event, please be mindful of the safety of the cats and shelter staff by having only one (1) cat per trap.

To schedule cats for surgery or for more information please call Julie Folk at 463-4782 or Bliss Seiferd at 888-7698.
