Mendocino County Library Wins ALA and Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission Book Set Giveaway
This summer, the American Library Association partnered with the Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission to distribute 6,000 book sets about women’s suffrage to public and school libraries across the United States in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment.
The Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission, created by Congress to mark the centennial of women’s suffrage, selected the books and provided funding for the project. Each set consists of three books aimed at different reading levels for youth. Titles include Mara Rockliff’s, Around America to Win the Vote for elementary readers, The Woman’s Hour: Our Fight for the Right to Vote by Elaine Weiss for middle school readers, and the National Park Service Women’s Suffrage Reader, an anthology of essays for high school readers.
Mendocino County Library applied and won several of the book sets allowing each Library branch, the Bookmobile, and the outreach van to have their own copy of each title which will be available for curbside checkout.
