Poet Stephen Kessler to read from his new book, Garage Elegies at Coast Community Library

Poet, award-winning translator, critic and essayist, Stephen Kessler, returns to Point Arena’s Coast Community Library to read from his newly published book, Garage Elegies, which is a selection of his original poetry from 2012 through 2016. Stephen founded and edited the Redwood Coast Review for 16 years (1999-2014) as a vehicle for Coast Community Library in association with the Independent Coast Observer newspaper and it received the California Library Association’s PR Excellence Award four times. In recent years he has been a regular op-ed columnist for the Santa Cruz Sentinel.

Stephen KesslerKessler is the author of 10 previous poetry collections, more than 15 books of translation from Spanish and Latin American writers, three collections of essays and a novel, The Mental Traveler.  His versions of the Spanish poet Luis Cernuda have received the Lambda Literary Award for Gay Men’s Poetry, the Harold Morton Landon Translation Award from the Academy of American Poets and the PEN Center USA Translation Award.  His translation of Save Twilight: Selected Poems by Julio Cortázar received a Northern California Book Award.  He is also the editor and principal translator of The Sonnets by Jorge Luis Borges. 

Kessler will also take questions about his work as a writer and editor in addition to reading from Garage Elegies.  Books will be available for purchase, there will be refreshments, and admission is free.
