With the repopulation of areas affected by the Mendocino Lake Complex Fire it’s important for residents returning to these areas to exercise extreme caution. Fire, Law Enforcement, and utility crews continue to work in these areas, and please note there are many downed trees and other hazards.
Mendocino County strongly supports CalFire’s Repopulation Safety Message for all Mendocino County Residents. “It is extremely important to wear body protection when returning to the evacuated areas of the County,” stated Tammy Moss Chandler, Director of the Health & Human Services Agency (HHSA). “Protective clothing, closed-toed shoes, eye protection and dust masks are essential for individuals returning to the impacted areas because ash and burnt materials contain chemicals that can be hazardous to you and your loved ones.”
The County is providing Disposable N95 Particulate Respirator masks, and instructions for use, to individuals who will be returning to their property. It is particularly important for individuals who have heart or lung disease and those who are working out of doors to use the N95s.
Gloves and masks are being distributed by the County and California Army National Guard at, 8601 West Road, Ukiah (Eagle Peak Middle) starting at 4 p.m.
County of Mendocino Health and Human Services Agency is also coordinating with Red Cross and Behavioral Health & Recovery Services to provide mental health services to individuals who are impacted by the fires. Connections to mental health services are being provided directly at the Red Cross evacuation shelters in Willits and Ukiah. Other impacted residents may call Mendocino County’s Mental Health Crisis Line at 1-855-838-0404.
